About Pocatello Arts Council

Mission

The Pocatello Arts Council was established in October 1991, to encourage, enhance, and educate the community with respect to the arts. Functioning as a working board, members collaborate to identify, plan and administrate public arts projects for community enhancement. Members oversee and manage available City allocated funding as well as seek additional arts funding from other sources to assist in the realization of projects. The Arts Council consists of nine to eleven members who serve three-year terms.

Meetings

The Pocatello Arts Council meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month in the Iwamizawa Conference Room of the Pocatello City Hall - 911 N. 7th Avenue.

The PAC Logo

PAC logo

The logo for the Pocatello Arts Council was the result of a competition held in the summer of 1991. The contest was advertised in the Idaho State Journal and offered a grand prize of $1000 for the entry chosen as the logo of the newly formed PAC. The entries were evaluated and the selection made by the members of the PAC. The grand prize was awarded to Lori Piccolo, a local graphic designer who was in school studying painting and working with metals. Lori is now a local artist and gallery co-owner.

In developing the logo design, Lori began thinking about the Pocatello Arts Council as a group of people and the interaction between them. She drew people in an art-deco style that she was working with at the time. Specifically within the design, one can identify three people, one man, one woman and one of unspecified gender. The individuals are interactive, and their relationship is highlighted, suggesting working, building, performing and/or dancing with one another. Lori noted that this is reflective of the nature of the PAC that the logo represents. Further, she considers the design, which emphasizes lines, one that is versatile and as such, would not lose qualit or detail when reprinted.
